Upcoming Dates

France’s best-known wines may hail from Bordeaux and Burgundy, but if you dare to venture beyond them, plenty of treats lie in store. From the Rhône’s herbaceous, juicy Grenache to Alsace’s floral Gewurztraminer and the intensely zippy whites of Jurançon, there is a wealth of styles to explore. For the first tasting of term, OUBTS’s very own Nick Joinson will guide you through a blind flight of regional French wines. The session is designed as a gentle start to the term – complete beginners and seasoned blind tasters are equally welcome.
Nick has been an active member of OUBTS since 2022 and has taught on the Beginners’ Course since 2023. During his time with the society, he has twice featured on the winning Varsity team and earned the second-highest score at Pol Roger’s international tasting competition this June (narrowly pipped by a Frenchman). Beyond the society, he has served as a wine buyer for an Oxford college and regularly attends trade tastings. It’s just a shame he seems to drink only French wine… which, happily, makes him the ideal host for the evening!
